Borrego RAMS was formed on Feb. 5th , 2021 in order to connect Amateur Radio Operators in the Borrego Springs area of Southern California.
IN CASE OF A MAJOR LOCAL/REGIONAL INCIDENT that may isolate Borrego Springs. The Borrego RAMS plan to use the HF 3.833 Mhz as their initial check-in frequency.
Our net is Thursday evening at 7 PM. We use the CORA (Cactus Open Repeater Assn.) system until 7:30 PM so we should have plenty of time for check-ins and some light discussion.
HF NET - Thursday evening HF net follows the CORA repeater net starting at approximately 7:30. Check in on 3.833 Mhz for General Class or higher licensees.
Here is the info you need for the CORA system net. You can access the CORA system via any of the repeaters below using analog VHF or UHF FM. The frequencies, direction of offsets and PL (CTCSS tones) are below. The PL tone is always 107.2 for all the repeaters. The offset for the two VHF repeaters is +0.600 mhz and the offset for the three UHF repeaters is -5.000 mhz – which are standard offsets. Mt. Woodson is probably the best repeater for those in the north part of the county. Mt. Laguna is best for Borrego Springs area. And Mt. Laguna, Alpine and El Cajon are good for the south part of the county. Please note that there are also other ham repeaters on many of these locations, but they are not linked as part of the CORA system.
Mt. Woodson (Located just NE of Poway California) 145.180- PL is 107.2
Alpine (Located in East San Diego County) 447.580- PL is 107.2
Mt Laguna (Located in East San Diego County) 145.120- PL is 107.2
Mt. Laguna (Located in East San Diego County) 446.420- PL is 107.2
El Cajon(Located in East San Diego County) 449.580- PL is 107.2
Because it is a linked repeater system, it is VERY IMPORTANT to remember that it takes a second or two for the repeaters to link up once you push the transmit button. So, when you talk on CORA, please press you Push to Talk button and wait one or two seconds before you talk. Otherwise, the first things you say will not be transmitted over the CORA system. This is characteristic of nearly all linked repeater systems.
If you cannot reach any of the repeaters, you can also join us using EchoLink. The EchoLink node is AF6BY-R. It can handle 8 users at a time.
EchoLink is easy to use and free. You can download an app for your phone or for your computer. Most people can download the app and be up and running quickly. However, you do have to upload a PDF copy of your ham radio license to use EchoLink. This is the validation step. If you do not have a PDF copy of your license, you can download one from the FCC licensing website. Here is a link to the main EchoLink website where you can get a host of information: https://secure.echolink.org/
